John Coltrane Quartet: Ballads

Even if some critics found Coltrane's ballads too easy, there is nothing wrong with this album. The jazz saxophonist does what he has always done: with a tireless determination to develop himself personally and artistically, he explores new modes of playing. On "Ballads" he emphasizes its softer side - a path he took with Johnny Hartman and Duke Ellington. This collaboration with McCoy Tyner is neither aggressive nor outward-looking. Coltrane is completely himself, sometimes predictable, and yet these are the album's merits. John Coltrane (1926-1967) developed his very own style of playing, which was particularly characterized by his melodic style and his unmistakable sound. He is therefore regarded as one of the greats in the history of jazz. With "Ballads", his refined and soulful interpretations of some standard ballads have been compiled, which particularly emphasize his "divine" sound and are among Coltrane's classics. Whether for dinner or to relax - this Coltrane compilation can be enjoyed like a profound Bordeaux from the Medoc. Strong in character and unmistakable! Jazz as it should sound!
