The album marks Davis' transition from bebop to cool jazz and was his first collaboration with master arranger Gil Evans After countless CD and LP reissues, the album now appears in a definitive LP version. The double LP contains the entire album session plus a live recording made during Miles' two-week stay at the Royal Roost in New York City in September 1948.
