For each album, he uses the entire spectrum of available studio sessions to produce completely different interpretations of the well-known songs and tracks. This is particularly true of "Lizard", where the demanding nature of the material, the greatly expanded line-up of musicians - many of whom come from jazz rather than rock backgrounds - and the number of takes recorded resulted in a huge amount of material to consider for this album. David had enough material to mix and produce alternative takes for each track on the original album. The 'Elemental Mixes' not only offer great insights into the recordings, but also allow for the inclusion of different takes from individual musicians - sometimes side by side - in a way that would never have been considered when composing the original album. David comments, "When I was working on the Elemental mixes, I jokingly referred to them as 'Lizard for those who don't like Lizard'. They were an absolute revelation. Lizard is the album that never really won me over in its original form. And yet these Elemental mixes, which offered a behind-the-scenes look at the album, revealed something new and amazing. So if you're a King Crimson fan who, like me, never really took Lizard to heart, then these mixes are an absolute must. This release comes as a single 200 gram LP and contains the complete album in Elemental Mix form in the same order as the original album. It presents "Lizard" in a very different way to what has been heard before. "Lizard"'s reputation has rightly grown in recent years as listeners old and new rediscovered the album, first when it was released by Steven Wilson in 2009 and then much of it was performed live for the first time in concerts by the latest King Crimson line-up between 2016 and 2018.
