After Amen, the Syndicate's personnel took on a distinctly international flavor, expressed on Joe's 1996 Grammy-nominated album "My People." "My People," which he had been working on for several years, demonstrated Joe's remarkable ability to blend his own unique musical sensibilities with those of other cultures. It was a high point in the Zawinul discography and marked the recording debut of a new edition of the syndicate featuring the incomparable drummer Paco Sery of the Ivory Coast, who seemed tailor-made for Joe's music.
