Everyone knows it, everyone loves it: the Morning Mood - Edvard Grieg's famous orchestral piece from the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1. This immense popularity belies the fact that the title Peer Gynt conceals an entire set of incidental music based on Henryk Ibsen's play of the same name. In addition to the pure orchestral pieces from the two suites, it includes choruses and solo songs And in doing so, one experiences many a surprise: for example, the morning mood by no means underscores the image of a Nordic landscape, as is often believed, but rather a scene set in the North African desert. Paavo Järvi's celebrated, atmospherically dense complete recording from 2005 with Nordic forces is now finally available again.
