Peter Gabriel: Up

After 10 years, PETER GABRIEL releases his long-awaited new solo album UP. UP is his first studio album since 1992's US, which sold many millions of copies worldwide. PETER GABRIEL's solo career now spans over 25 years, UP being the 12th production within this framework "This record," PETER GABRIEL explains the content intent of UP, "focuses more on the beginning and end of life, less on its middle. UP has become a very personal album, it reflects about life growing out of death, it also acknowledges patterns and powers that exist beyond our ordinary perception." On UP, there is an extraordinary list of musicians who contributed. But first and foremost, PETER's main focus was on drums and percussion. In this squad we find Manu Katche, Ged Lynch, Dominic Greensmith and Will White, all on drums, with Mahut Dominique and Hossam Ramzy nestled in the percussion ranks. The faces of David Rhodes (guitar) and Tony Levin (bass), already familiar in the GABRIEL environment, can be identified throughout the album, also Danny Thompson on upright bass. We also hear an immense range of singers, such as the wonderful and sadly now deceased Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the gospel troupe Blind Boys Of Alabama and PETER's own daughter, Melanie. The song Sky Blue is probably the track that was created in the past. On it you can hear Daniel Lanois with a very atmospheric guitar and - with Peter Green - one of PETER GABRIEL's idols from his youth.
