Gubaidulina: Glorious Percussion / In tempus praesens

Just in time for her 80th birthday, the discography of the grande dame of contemporary music is enriched by two of her most recent works on BIS. As in all her works, these two compositions are closely linked to her religious and philosophical convictions. In the violin concerto "in tempus praesens", the numbers 1 and 3, derived from the Holy Trinity, play a decisive role. The work was premiered by Anne-Sophie Mutter at the Lucerne Festival in 2007 and has been one of the most frequently performed contemporary concertos ever since. For Gubaidulina, rhythm is the origin of all music, so it is not surprising that she has written a whole series of works for percussion. "Glorious Percussion" was premiered by the ensemble of the same name in 2008 and can be heard here for the first time.
