After their inspiring interpretations of string quartets by Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert, the Chiaroscuro Quartet now turns to Mozart's "Prussian Quartets," his last contributions to the genre. They were written for King Frederick William II of Prussia, who was also an amateur cellist. And so this instrument has an exceptionally prominent role in these quartets. Mozart had actually planned the classical setting of six quartets, but it never came to pass. He never took composing quartets lightly, and about these three he himself said it was "exhaustive work". And yet they breathe the lightness and inspiring elegance of Haydn.
