Missy Mazzoli: Dark With Excessive Bright (SACD)

Named "2022 Composer of the Year" by Musical America, Missy Mazzoli offers an exquisite and mysterious soundscape where indie rock meets American minimalism, European modernism meets classical traditions. The first woman to receive a commission from the Metropolitan Opera, she has also composed for prominent soloists, orchestras and ensembles worldwide. With her music she reaches the roots of tradition, inhabiting and renovating old forms. She likes to tell stories, she says, and always imagines actors, singers and dancers in special situations, even when writing instrumental works. A colorful selection of works including "Vespers for Violin solo" and a series of orchestral works is framed by "Dark with Excessive Bright," first with string orchestra accompaniment and at the end in a chamber version with string quintet.
