Piazzolla - Escualo5 (SACD)

His Tango nuevo was for Astor Piazzolla a ticket to the world of classical music, as no other "non-classical" composer had yet found. Today, his compositions are played in concert halls worldwide, and there are arrangements for symphony orchestra, string quartet, wind ensembles, mandolin orchestra, even harpsichord.... Escualo5, however, returns to the instrumentation that Piazzolla had at his disposal for most of his career: bandoneon, violin, piano, guitar and double bass. The artists are not interested in imitating Piazzolla's own interpretations. For this first recording, the five have chosen both popular and lesser-known pieces, including the Tango Suite and the Histoire du Tango, two works that were originally written for two guitars and flute.
