Franz Xaver Mozart: Piano Quartet op. 1

Born a few months before his father's early death, Franz Xaver Mozart was the great hope of his mother Constanze, who hoped that the younger of her two surviving sons would continue the musical line of inheritance. She therefore ensured that her offspring received a first-class education, and he made every effort to justify the trust placed in him. He became a fine, recognized pianist, while over the years he created a small, tasteful oeuvre in which small ensembles from lieder to chamber music formations dominate and a character emerges that is not unlike his father: behind the classically elegant, sometimes humorous language there is a quiet, touching melancholy that, especially in the piano quartet, wants to cross over into the world of the Romantics with a stormy urge.
