After the European Hanseatic Ensemble under the direction of Manfred Cordes stopped off in Stralsund in 2023, the journey now leads to Gdansk. And here, too, the touring company has unearthed numerous 17th century sacred treasures; organ pieces, choral movements, fascinating scenes such as the battle of the Archangel Michael against the adversary ... Once again, we are presented with a picture of a turbulent time in which the strengthening of faith was certainly not least due to the spirit of music. What came to light in passing, however, is thought-provoking: how the good Christians and thoroughly capable artists tried to force each other out of office with intrigues and cabals is the stuff of historical novels.
