Symphonies, chamber music & piano works by Ture Rangström in one box Finland has its Sibelius, Denmark its Nielsen, but who was the most important composer in Sweden at the beginning of this century who entered music history with his very own sound? Ture Rangström (1884-1947). He was a natural talent, a musical bedrock. And so his music is: powerful, hymnic, original. With a keen sense for new ideas, he created al fresco paintings in a block technique in which elegiac tones are sometimes colored by garish orchestral effects. This music is overwhelming in the truest sense of the word. Rangström has written very little chamber music: But it has a lot to offer! The three-movement piano suite Mälarlegender (based on a Strindberg poem), his only string quartet with the fantastic title Ein Nachtstück in E. T. A. Hoffmann's manner (dedicated to Carl Nielsen, who followed the composition with interest), the 2 suites for violin and piano - in modo antico and in modo barocco - Capriccio amoroso, Poem and Arioso for violin and piano and Improvisata for piano solo. Small forms all - but the lion's paw can be felt everywhere.
