Menotti: Die Alte Jungfer und der Dieb / Das Medium (DVD)

An important document of opera and film history Gian Carlo Menotti, who died in 2007, was one of the most important American opera composers of the 20th century. The two operas here, The Old Maid and the Thief and The Medium, are unique studio productions from the early years of television. They depict comic and tragic crime stories during the first half of the 20th century and are taken from everyday American life. The performances feature a first-class cast: Elisabeth Höngen, Eberhard Waechter and Olive Moorefield shine in their roles. The Vienna Volksoper Orchestra is under the musical direction of Wolfgang Rennert (The Old Maid and the Thief) and Armando Alberti (The Medium).
