With “Dark Asylum,” Kamelot expand their atmospheric range, delving deeper into theatrical shadows while still retaining their characteristic, catchy hooks. The album features an impressive lineup of guest musicians: Ignacia Fernández (Decessus, Miss World Chile) can be heard on “Dark Asylum” and “Sanctuary,” the latter of which also features a powerful contribution from Clémentine Delauney (Visions of Atlantis). Avantasia mastermind Tobias Sammet shines with particular dignity in “One Last Masquerade,” while Lea-Sophie Fischer (Eluveitie) plays the violin on “Beneath the Moon (Tungli),” accompanied by the ethereal vocals of Rannveig Sif Sigurardóttir and Sólveig Sara Leupold. Billy King reinforces the orchestral choir, while Kiara Huber sets the tone with an atmospheric introduction to “Dark Asylum.” From the cinematic “Ashen World” to the profound “Sanctuary” and on to the multi-layered “Ivy, My Dear,” *Dark Asylum* unfolds as an immersive journey in which orchestral grandeur, haunting melodies, and theatrical storytelling blend into a unified vision.
