Handel: Water Music

A royal pleasure: The baroque classic in reference quality. Marc Minkowski and his Musiciens du Louvre / Grenoble present a classic of the Baroque: George Frideric Handel's "Water Music", more precisely the three suites HWV 348 in F major, 50 in G major and 349 in D major. Additionally they recorded the overture to the opera "Rodrigo". A new masterpiece of unmistakably Minkowskiian character: Les Musiciens du Louvre / Grenoble once again inspire with light-footed playing and set a reference among the numerous recordings of this work with wonderful original sound. It is assumed that Handel's Water Music was commissioned on the occasion of an excursion of the English royal family, namely as background music for a boat trip with souper of the entire court on the Thames. The ruler and his entourage rode in the first boat, followed by an orchestra conducted by Handel in the second. According to reports, the German-born George I was so taken with the music that he had the piece repeated three times.
