Constantijn Huygens was not only a respected Dutch diplomat and statesman, among others in the service of William II of Orange, he was also a no less gifted poet, musician and composer; the musical œuvre comprises more than 700 compositions! The excellent tenor Cyril Auvity and his ensemble present not only all the French songs from the collection Pathodia sacra et profana, published in 1647, but also a selection of the Italian aria and the Latin psalms. As accompaniment they chose not only viola da gamba, harpsichord and organ, but also a reconstruction of the mysterious Lautenwerck, a combination of lute and harpsichord.
