Bill Evans: Waltz For Debby (LP crystal clear)

"Waltz For Debby" is the second album recorded at the Village Vanguard in 1961. While the focus of the first album Sunday at the Village Vanguard was on Scott LaFaro's solo work, "Waltz For Debby" is a portrait of the trio, which consisted of drummer Paul Motian alongside Evans and LaFaro. Evans shows a different side here than in his work with Miles Davis, for example; his style is clearly more emotional. The trio's interplay is impressive. The Bill Evans Trio with Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums reached its peak with its club recordings on June 25, 1961 at the Village Vanguard in New York. LaFaro died soon after (on July 6, 1961) at the age of 25 in a car accident. Evans was so shocked by the death of his bassist that he waited a long time before forming a new trio. A selection of pieces from the "Village Vanguard" session was compiled by Evans himself and originally released on two albums: "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" and "Waltz for Debby", the latter of which is presented here in its entirety.
