Presented here is the complete LP Thelonious Monk Trio (PrestigePRLP 7027), the pianist's first album in trio format. It was recorded over the course of three sessions between 1952 and 1954 and Monk is accompanied by greats such as Percy Heath on bass and Max Roach and Art Blakey on drums. Two songs that complete the sessions but were not included on the original LP have been added here as a bonus, as well as the only three trio tracks from Monk's other quartet or quintet BlueNote Dates from the early 1950s and his complete live set from the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, which was one of his few live trio performances recorded.
