Popis
The highly acclaimed recordings of the Schubert symphonies by the B'Rock Orchestra and René Jacobs now appear in a complete box set. The Schubert recording offered Jacobs the opportunity to return to his first great musical love. His interpretation is based on thorough research into the developments and ideas of the early 19th century as well as a thorough exploration of Schubert's music and his person. Jacobs conceives of this cycle as a series of multiple contrasting symphonies that oscillate between Italian lightness and the darker currents of Romanticism, between elegant forms and expansive aspirations, all in harmony with Schubert's dynamic, multi-faceted personality. Schubert's symphonies have never achieved the paradigmatic status of his contemporary Beethoven, but with these recordings Jacobs makes a compelling case for appreciating and understanding them on their own terms. He performs these
Works with the B'Rock Orchestra, one of the most innovative period-instrument ensembles of our time, with whom he has forged a congenial working relationship.
