Soprano Rosa Feola, the Cappella Neapolitana and conductor Antonio Florio pay tribute to Niccolo Piccinni, the master of the 18th century Neapolitan opera tradition, with "Son regina e sono amante". The album deliberately omits his most famous work, "La buona figliola", and instead offers arias from his operas in French and Italian style, including some in Neapolitan. Feola's origins - she comes from San Nicola la Strada in Campania, a municipality around 25 km from Naples - make her the ideal ambassador to bring the once world-famous Piccinni back into the limelight. Rosa Feola has received numerous awards for her achievements and is a regular guest at the world's most important opera houses. The Cappella Neapolitana and its artistic director Antonio Florio have played a decisive role in the rediscovery of Neapolitan music since its foundation in 1987.
