Popis
On her new album "Are You Still Somewhere?" the harpist Lavinia Meijer, known for her genre-expanding collaborations, combines her own compositions and pieces by current composers such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds or Lambert to create a musical reflection on loneliness and alienation For Lavinia Meijer, all the pieces on the album are comments or thoughts on scenes of alienation and loneliness in society. A special highlight is the track "Mom & Dad", which Lavinia Meijer wrote and recorded together with punk legend Iggy Pop. The composition is a reduced and expressive setting of a poem by Iggy Pop, which he performs in his distinctive voice to Lavinia Meijer's harp playing. The two musicians have already collaborated in the past, including in the sensational live project "An Evening with ..." with composer icon Philip Glass. Another guest artist on "Are You Still Somewhere?" is Dutch pianist Pieter de Graaf, who accompanies Lavinia Meijer on the piano for the piece "DAMnation." Lavinia Meijer has always pushed musical boundaries. She was born in South Korea and adopted at the age of 2 by a Dutch-Austrian couple. She began playing the harp at the age of 9. At 11 she was accepted at the prestigious Utrecht Conservatory and by 14 she was playing in symphony orchestras. She became known worldwide for her playing style that expanded the sound and repertoire of the harp. She played concerts with Philip Glass or Ólafur Arnalds and performed Radiohead in classical concert halls. Her albums "The Glass Effect" and "Voyage" became international successes. Lavinia Meijer has always experimented with electronic music, jazz, theater music and avant-rock. All these influences are also reflected in the tracks of her album "Are You Still Somewhere?" and provided the inspiration for her own compositions. "I miss certain elements in the existing repertoire of the harp, and I want to show that the harp is not just a part of ancient history, but is contemporary and can continue to evolve," Lavinia Meijer explains.
