August Enna, a Dane by birth but an Italian by ancestry, was a composer who took his inspiration for the works on this new CPO release, from the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, Denmark’s most significant and best known writers. This disc includes some true musical gems; the Hans Christian Andersen Festival Overture, “Fairy Tales” symphonic pictures and the magical Second Symphony with its sparkling orchestration.
