Although Clara Schumann had an exciting artistic life, it was not an easy one. Highly acclaimed as a pianist and far more famous than her husband Robert, as a composer she suffered from the discrepancy between excessive pressure of expectation and her own feelings of inferiority. Her few works impressively demonstrate that at least these were unjustified.
this month, cpo presents the first truly complete recording of all of Clara Schumann's songs, which need not fear comparison with her husband's songs in terms of poetic inventiveness.
Gabriele Fontana, soprano, and Konstanze Eickhorst have also created a reference recording that finally gives the beauty of this song oeuvre the attention it deserves.
