Jewels of Protestant Cantata Art One can say today only of luck that the Gothaische Hofkapellmeister Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (1690-1749) was so popular at the Sondershausen court and so revered by Prince Günther I that most of his works were sent there for copying. In contrast to the main place of activity, Gotha, where Stölzel's enormous legacy of works was abandoned soon after the composer's death, the essential parts of the works archived in Sondershausen have been preserved and today represent the quantitatively richest collection of Stölzel's compositions ever Here lies the Brockes Passion, whose release on cpo a few years ago initiated a Stölzel renaissance. But there are also four complete cantatas here, from the last two - 1735 / 36 and 1736 / 37 - we have now produced the beautiful 6 cantatas for Whitsun for the first time. The extremely richly instrumented cantatas already found the delight of their contemporaries, as Gerber explained in detail in his Tonkünstler-Lexicon of 1792. Ludger Rémy (who else. . .) has the overall direction, Dorothee Mields, Martin Wölfel, Jan Kobow and Christian Immler sing it, the Telemannisches Collegium Michaelstein plays it.
