In the press cpo is very often called the discovery label par excellence. This also corresponds to an expectation that we have to meet again and again with new explorations through the history of music. Not always one finds such undiscovered jewels as Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel or... Georg Gebel. When we released his St. John Passion (CD 4955568 ) at the beginning of this year, there was a murmur in the trade press - just like in the Stölzel a few years before. That such good, original music of the 18th century was completely unknown and forgotten. Gebel, who spent most of his professional life in the Thuringian residence Rudolstadt, enjoyed a legendary reputation during his lifetime, which already began with a miracle child career. There is also the odd thing about him to report that also during his lifetime most of his works had already been lost, "because, for the most part, the score was demanded of him at the same time, but was not returned, because everyone who had had something of his to sit on picked it up as something very beautiful for himself" (Marpurg, 1755). Of the little that has survived, now something else on cpo: The Christmas and New Yearsoratorium 1748. Our soloists are Monika Mauch, Kai Wessel, Nico van der Meel and Peter Kooij, Cantus Thuringia and the Capella Thuringia under the overall direction of Bernhard Klapprott.
