In 1725, Georg Philipp Telemann published a collection of 72 cantatas for all Sundays and holidays of the Lutheran church year in strictly chamber music instrumentation with only one voice, one instrumental solo part and basso continuo This cycle was thus intended from the outset for the chamber and for making music at home. Telemann called it Harmonischer Gottesdienst, thus referring to Pietism, which allowed each person his own and personal worship of God. As early as 1732, Telemann published a "Continuation of the Harmonious Divine Service", which was more richly endowed in the instrumental dressing: two solo instruments are now provided in addition to the basso continuo, including such instruments as trumpet, viola and horn. Ruth Ziesak, together with the CAMERATA KÖLN, has now recorded a small excerpt from this abundance with pieces that are as contrasting as possible for cpo. As always with Telemann: the discovery of a wonderful microcosm.
