Popis
George Frideric Handel's choral works are certainly not seldom to be found on sound carriers, and yet there are still sensitive gaps in the catalogue. We now want to fill two essential ones: With the Furneral Anthem "The way of Zion do mourn" and the so-called Caroline Te Deum. Both were written for Queen Caroline (1683-1737), the musically very interested and talented wife of George II. The Funeral Antehm was created after the death of the queen in 1737 and is one of the most harrowing lamentations of death ever. Mozart, who was a great Handel admirer, used the beginning of the second movement as the Kyrie for his Requiem. Do what Abbé Stadler recommended as early as 1826: "True connoisseurs will certainly get a musical delight when they compare Handel's Anthem and Mozart's Requiem. They will both admire, and not know which one to give preference to ." The Te Deum was composed in 1714 and is one of Handel's earliest sacred vocal works for England In our recording, we have a part in it: Mieke van der Sluis, Graham Pushee, Harry van Berne and Harry van der Kamp, the Alsfelder Vokalensemble and the Barockorchester Bremen Wolfgang Helbich is in charge.
