Popis
When Georg Philipp Telemann took office in Hamburg in the autumn of 1721, he was practically responsible for the entire musical life of the city, so he was - as we would say today - its General Music Director
In addition to supplying the five main churches with "ordinary" church music and "exraordinary" music for the numerous festival and commemoration days, he organized public concerts, revived the Gänsemarkt Opera with new works and delivered numerous compositions for private clients in and outside Hamburg
One of the very important clients was the "Wollöbliche Collegium der Bürger-Capitaines", which held a festive "convivium" every year and ordered a large two-part festival music from Telemann
Beginning with the year 1723, Telemann created no less than 36 so-called captain's music for the captains and colonels of the Hamburger Bürgerwache, each
consisting
of an "Oratorio" and a "Serenate
"
In our Telemann edition we now publish the entire Captain's Music of 1755, which is certainly an unparalleled discovery:
The
musical ideas bubble over, instrumentation refinements with timpani, pipes and trumpets chase each other, and especially in the Serenata Telemann's famous musical humour celebrates true
triumphs
Michael Schneider, whose Telemann recordings at cpo have already earned the highest critics' praise, once again leads his "Stagione" with verve and fire. Among the illustrious group of singers are Mechthild Bach, Mechthild Georg, Michael Schopper and Raimund Nolte.
