The late Telemann - and I have often written it - is a rare phenomenon: comparable perhaps only to Verdi, he wrote his best works at an age when inspiration for most composers (if they were that old at all) diminished considerably. His innovative spirit amazes again and again: He leaves the musical baroque far behind him and opens the doors to sensitivity and classical music. This is also the case with his Passion oratorio "Consideration of the 9th hour on the day of Jesus' death" from 1755. In its conciseness and touching, simple interiority it is a small masterpiece. It is not a real person who observes the events in Jesus' hour of death. We hear the report and the reflection of a Dane who refers the events to himself and to us. This first recording is a premiere in two respects At the same time she opens the collaboration of cpo with the Rheinische Kantorei and the Barockorchester Das Kleine Konzert under Hermann Max. As an addition to this CD, two cantatas from Telemann's earlier time: "A man is like grass in his life" and "Lord, I love the place of your house". The top-class soloists are: Maria ZAdori, Kai Wessel, David Cordier, Wilfried Jochens, Hans-Georg Wimmer, Harry van der Kamp and Stephan Schreckenberger.
