This cpo novelty also reflects a family history. In 1778 Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (the Bückeburger) and his son Wilhelm Friedrich Ernst travelled to London to visit Johann Christian Bach. After a longer stay, the father returned to Bückeburg, his son stayed with his uncle in London and from then on called himself William Bach. Only after Johann Christian's death did he return to Germany, where he eventually led a secluded life as a piano teacher in Berlin. Both uncle and nephew were outstanding and well-known pianists, and it is from Johann Christian that the earliest works for piano four hands - the sonatas op. 15, 6 and op. 18, 5 and 6 and even a rare sonata for two pianos - were written. Three other four-hand sonatas were attributed to him until recently, but are by his nephew. All in all, then, a beautifully rounded programme for our young piano duo Genova and Dimitrov.
