Antonio Bertali (1605-1699) was one of the central musical personalities in 17th-century Europe as Kapellmeister at the Viennese court. Emperor Ferdinand III spared no expense in securing the services of the best Italian musicians of his time to give his court the necessary cultural splendour Bertali wrote operas, oratorios, masses and great representative music.
