The Planets are among the best-known works in English orchestral literature. They have made the composer Gustav Holst (1874-1934) known beyond England, but at the same time they have obscured the view of his much larger compositional œuvre. The very first set (ballet music) of the recording of all Holst's orchestral works planned for Chandos shows a composer of great ingenuity.
