Popis
"On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the multi-platinum album, we present Too-Rye-Ay, as it should have sounded." Kevin Rowland was never satisfied with the final mix of the album, although it was a great commercial success. So, together with Helen O'Hara and Pete Schwier, they decided to remix the album. In recent interviews, Kevin Rowland has stated: "The songs and performances are great, but I always felt the mixing could be better. It's my most successful album, but it doesn't sound as good as the others. This is the director's cut and this is what it should have sounded like..." The album cover was also redesigned, using the preferred image from the Come On Eileen single sleeve. All the material on the remix is from the original recordings, nothing new was added. Some of the arrangements were changed, for example: on Plan B we put the horns in earlier and the 'girl' talking was replaced with Kevin's voice, which he recorded at the time. On Liars A to E we lowered the backing vocals an octave in places because Kevin felt they were too high, and on Until I Believe In My Soul we replaced the 'penny whistle' in the intro with Jim's trombone, which he had also recorded at the time. The remix itself was pretty simple - we tried to put as much emotion into the songs as possible, and since technology has advanced so much, we were able to remove a lot of pops, noises and artifacts that were on the original multitracks. The task was to create an alternative mix that preserved the spirit of the original recordings and shed new light on some of these great songs. I hope we succeeded in doing that.... (Producer - Pete Schwier, January 2022)
