The program on Im wachen Traume, named after a text sequence from the first piece of Schumann's song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben, combines said cycle - in a new arrangement for soprano and string quartet by Aribert Reimann - with music by the Renaissance composer William Byrd and the Baroque composer Henry Purcell. The majority of the works are first recordings. The earlier English repertoire forms the framework of the album and encompasses women's love and life in a thematic bracket which, to quote Delian Quartet violinist Andreas Moscho, "paints the span in dazzling harmonies, from the bliss of the moment to the end of things." Claudia Barainsky, one of Reimann's leading interpreters, is an impressive presence throughout and lends great expression to the Schumann cycle in particular - here she demonstrates a keen sense of the emotional content of the text. Most of the pieces by Byrd and Purcell appear in revised versions by the Italian composer Stefano Pierini.Prihlásenie
