After appearing on Blue Note albums by Dr. Lonnie Smith and Kenny Barron, Blue Note released drummer Johnathan Blake's first album in 2021, "Homeward Bound". On "Homeward Bound", Blake introduces his own new band Pentad, a quintet of musicians who move as agilely as he does in that mystery of time and space. He has chosen the line-up of bassist Dezron Douglas and three young, acclaimed virtuosos Immanuel Wilkins (alto saxophone), Joel Ross (vibraphone) and David Virelles (keyboards, piano, Fender Rhodes and Minimoog) to compose music with a fuller, more chord-based sound, resulting in an intuitive, dense sound that allows for spontaneity and is based on trust.
