This 1957 album is considered one of Dizzy's best meetings with jazz greats Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins. It is rumored that Gillespie playfully pitted the two against each other before the session, raising the bar and creating an iconic album. Ray Bryant (piano), Tommy Bryant (bass) and Charlie Persip (drums) join Gillespie, Stitt and Rollins on four tracks that showcase two different approaches to the tenor saxophone. Stitt plunges headlong into "The Eternal Triangle" with fiery intensity, while Rollins counters with a more deliberate approach. Make no mistake though, the two trade blows throughout the set, leaving no doubt that both are heavyweight champions.
