Popis
Includes all recordings from the 'Full House Sessions' at the Tsubo in Berkeley on June 25, 1962 and two previously unreleased performances. Wes Montgomery's incredibly original concept and style continue to have a profound influence on virtually all jazz guitarists of his era and beyond, as well as a host of rock musicians. Montgomery, known for his unusual technique of plucking the strings with the side of his thumb and his extensive use of octaves, played in Lionel Hampton's band in the 1948s and 1950s and with brothers Buddy and Monk in the Mass. Beginning in 1964, a series of recordings with string orchestra and big band accompaniment became bestsellers, but Wes was rarely recorded in his prime. He rarely performed in clubs, and it was often said that his club performances exuded more warmth and excitement than his studio work. This album is the only "live" album he left on his first label, Riverside, and features tenor sax virtuoso Johnny Griffin, with whom Montgomery was Miles Davis' partner at the time. A memorable session where Montgomery first joined the celebrated trio of Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, who formed Miles Davis' rhythm section at the time. New notes by journalist Bill Milkowski. 192kHz/24-bit mastering from the original analog tapes by Joe Tarantino.
