Popis
On his 2024 album "Always Centered At Night", Moby has once again created a collection of heartbreakingly beautiful, tender and yet defiantly powerful songs, created in collaboration with a selection of uniquely talented and sensitive singers. Each song is a declaration of love to the unbridled and inspiring music scene of late 70s and early 80s New York that Moby so influenced as a musician. He had one request to the singers involved in the album: "Don't write anything commercial. Let it be idiosyncratic. Let it be personal. It doesn't have to make sense." "Because of this creative freedom, I ended up with so much brilliant work," says Moby. "The result is one of the most exciting and surprising projects I've ever been involved in as a musician. It's one of the most valuable experiences a person can have: creating soulful, gentle and vulnerable music that calls for action." The album features some of the most exciting voices of our time. Some well-known examples include serpenwithfeet on the song "on air", which is reminiscent of a breathless daydream, the jazzy Lady Blackbird on the haunting song "dark days", or the outstanding poet and activist Benjamin Zephaniah on the track "where is your pride?". Other contributors are rather unknown - such as fellow singer Brie O'Banion on the Cream cover "we're going wrong" or the excellent poet Danaé Wellington on the powerful song "wild flame." "My wish for 'always centered at night' was to create something uncompromising," says Moby. "To write music that is emotional, atmospheric and, at its best, beautiful." And what better way to use this strange privilege than to try and foster creativity that maintains its unwavering integrity."
