Led by the excellent and therefore multi-award-winning mandolinist Anna Torge, the ensemble on this album is dedicated to the small but fine legacy of a musician of whom hardly anything is known apart from the name and key dates of his life: Abbate Ranieri Capponi (1680-1744). And even this most modest proof of his existence would have disappeared if Ruberto Capponi had not had twelve sonatas da camera for several instruments printed in Florence after his brother's death and dedicated them to the Prince Archbishop of Cologne, Clemens August. Thus, in the infinite expanses of history, the delicate trace of the life of a man who was obviously familiar with the instrumental canon of forms of his time and who mastered the art of "Gemüthsergötzung", as Anna Torge and her colleagues from the continuo amusingly demonstrate with six of Capponi's delightful chamber sonatas.
