"BLOW UP"
"Blow-Up" is a soundtrack composed by HERBIE HANCOCK for the 1966 Michelangelo Antonioni film.
On a musical level, the songs evoke the atmosphere of the Swinging Sixties in London; with grooves that evoke bluesy ambience on the slower tracks and funky jazz ambience on the faster tracks.
The album features HANCOCK on piano, Freddie Hubbard and Joe Newman on trumpet, Phil Woods and Joe Henderson on saxophone, Ron Carter on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums.
If you believe the rumors, the famous musicians Jimmy Smith or Paul Griffin played Hammond organ here.
Rock fans will remember the movie and the fitting soundtrack will be the rare YARDBIRDS number "Stroll On" (which was actually just a modified version of Tiny Bradshaw's "The Train Kept A-Rollin'"), one of only three songs they recorded with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitars.
The bass line of "Bring Down The Birds" was sampled by DEEE-LITE for the 1990 hit single "Groove Is In The Heart" featuring BOOTSY COLLINS.
