The Spanish soprano Nuria Rial and the recorder player Maurice Steger are among the most successful artists on the early music scene. Their first album together shows how superbly Nuria Rial's clear soprano and the sound of Steger's flute go together
Together with the award-winning Basel Chamber Orchestra, they have recorded an album of baroque arias and concertos inspired by the songs of birds. In their search for repertoire, they have discovered wonderful treasures, some well-known, some previously unheard: dreamy, playful arias about love, falling in love and the beauties of nature
In Leonardo Vinci's (1690-1730) aria "Rondinella che dal nido", for example, the rapid arpeggios of the strings sound like the swirling wings of a swallow; in Gasparini's (1661-1727) aria "Bell'augelletto", the dawn is greeted by a bird song from flute and soprano. With further works by Vivaldi (1678-1741), Mancini (1672-1737), Torri (1650 - 1737), Albinoni (1671 - 1751) or Scarlatti (1660 - 1725), "Baroque Twitter" is an exciting journey into the baroque poetry and sound language of the 18th century, full of musical variety and soloistic brilliance.
